Super Smash Bros. for 3DS launched last week in Japan, marking the series' long-anticipated handheld debut. After just one week of availability, the Media Create sales figures indicate that Super Smash Bros. has already passed one million copies sold.

Specifically, 944,644 units were sold in retailers, with eShop downloads bumping the total sales beyond one million copies. Suffice it to say, the year's most-anticipated 3DS release has already become a huge success in Japan.

To compare, the second-highest seller was Destiny for the PlayStation 4, which sold just one-tenth the number of copies - 91,277. In fact, Destiny's combined sales between the PS3 and PS4 platforms were just over 140,000 units.

Super Smash Bros. was not the only high-selling 3DS game last week; Media Create reports that Level-5's Yokai Watch 2 sold nearly 50k, while Square-Enix's Dragon Quest X Online breached 20k.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will be available in North American retailers and the 3DS eShop on October 3.
